When looking at facial fillers before and after photos, you’ll be able to see outstanding results, achieved in just a twenty or thirty minute appointment. Filler injectables can smooth out vertical lines on the lips, fill in hollow cheeks, or change the shape of the nose entirely. There are many types of facial fillers, and each one serves a unique purpose.
You may have heard of men and women getting facial fillers on social media platforms like Instagram, or perhaps you have a friend or family member who’s started experimenting them. For many people, the idea of getting dermal fillers or neuromodulators like Botox and Dysport is fresh and new. These types of procedures were once only associated with celebrities and wealthy people. But today, more and more people of all ages and walks of life are using these procedures to help boost their confidence and achieve the look they desire.
If you have been considering a dermal filler treatment such as hyaluronic acid filler, let’s take a look at what you can expect before and after your procedure.
Before and After Facial Balancing with Fillers
Facial balancing with fillers is all about finding the right filler for the right job. Upper lip filler is not the same as a filler for the tear trough or nasolabial folds, nor is it the same as cheek fillers.
Every lovely patient with their own lovely and unique facial shape and features comes to us with unique problems to solve. So, we always do our very best to find the exact filler(s) that will enhance their natural beauty and achieve their goals.
Before Dermal Fillers: What to Expect
As you head into getting fillers to augment or change your lips, cheeks, or other facial features, here’s what you can expect.
Your Consultation Appointment
Your first step toward getting facial fillers is to schedule a consultation appointment with a board certified plastic surgeon. Whether you want less wrinkles on your upper face or to treat your cheek area and give yourself more volume or more definition in the mid face, it is at your consultation appointment where you can meet with your surgeon and discuss your concerns and main goal for surgery.
Treatment Areas
Here are just some of the concerns that dermal fillers can treat:
- Dark circles in the under eye area
- Tear troughs
- Marionette lines
- Crow’s feet
- Volume loss on the cheeks (hollow cheeks)
- Lower face volume loss or loss of volume on the lips or around the mouth
- Jawline sagging
- Forehead sagging
- Lack of definition in the cheekbones
While hyaluronic acid fillers tend to be most effective for many of these issues, there are a range of fillers available.
Your surgeon will examine your face and areas of concern and tell you whether you can add volume to your cheeks, fill in lines on the lips, use jawline filler or eye filler, or make other adjustments with a simple injection.
What if Fillers Aren’t Right for You?
In some cases, it’s important to note that a neuromodulator or another procedure such as a face lift or neck lift may be necessary. We may have a young lady come in, for example, who wants to adjust the shape of her nose with fillers.
While a dorsal hump and some other cosmetic nasal concerns can often be improved with just a small amount of filler, every patient is different. If you want to change the tip of your nose or make other adjustments, for example, filler may not do the trick. Changes made to the structure of the nose may require a surgical rhinoplasty.
After Dermal Fillers: What to Expect
The dermal filler procedure itself is relatively quick. For almost every patient, one session should only last about twenty to thirty minutes. Sometimes, patients decide to get multiple treatments, but most go with one treatment every six months to a year.
After you head home, here’s what you can expect.
Facial Filler Recovery
After undergoing a dermal filler procedure, some slight redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness and soreness are not uncommon. At most, these symptoms will take a few days to a week to subside.
Most patients feel comfortable returning to their normal everyday activities on the same day as their procedure. Though, you may decide to rest and take a day or more off from work or get-togethers. It’s never a bad idea to rest after a facial procedure.
Also, remember that if you are getting fillers for an event such as a wedding or party, you’ll want to allot at least a week to fully recovery before the special day.
FAQ: Dermal Fillers
Can men get facial fillers?
Absolutely. All dermal fillers are male female — they’re for everyone! They’re also for all adult ages. Whether a young woman or older male comes to us, we can help find the right fillers for you.
Can facial fillers make me look less tired?
Yes, certainly. Of course, which fillers you use and where will depend on what your face naturally looks like and where you tend to look the most fatigued.
Often, using an injection of fillers on the cheeks or beneath the eyes can help the most in this regard. Plumping the lips tends to be helpful at making someone look more youthful.
How long do facial fillers last?
How long do facial fillers last? This is a common question. Dermal fillers are long lasting but not permanent. It really depends on the type of filler.
Most fillers last from six months to a year. Juvéderm Ultra usually lasts for around a year, for example.
Still, some fillers such as Juvéderm Voluma are said to last longer — sometimes, up to two years for each beautiful patient.

As you search for a plastic surgeon to perform your facial filler procedure, keep in mind that looking at facial fillers before and after pictures is a great place to start. It’s living proof that these procedures can work! And most of the time, before and after photos of this nature can easily be found online.
However, because of the nature of facial injectables (and most notably, the fact that they usually show the entirety of a person’s face), before and after facial fillers photo galleries are often much harder to find online.
Patients frequently don’t really want their faces shown (if they’ve had body procedures, they’re usually more okay with having their bodies shown as long as their faces are cropped out and they’re anonymous).
For this reason, it’s even more important to schedule a consultation appointment. At this appointment, our team can show you female and male facial fillers before and after photos so that you can envision your results and choose the right injectables for your goals. Call today to request a consultation with female board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ashley Steinberg.
