Patients seeking Brazilian butt lift surgery are often concerned about having BBL scars after recovery. Common questions include:
- “Will I have BBL scars?”
- “What do BBL scars look like?”
- “Do BBL scars go away?”
- “Can I see some BBL scars pictures?”
- “Do BBL incision scars go away?”
Fortunately, we can always direct you to some BBL scars before and after photos. And there, you will see something that should make you quite happy: Nothing.
In other words, BBL scars are typically so small and hard to see that they are, indeed, barely visible. Most brazilian butt lift scars are discreet and fade well with time. Of course, this doesn’t happen over night.
In the following article, we’ll go over where BBL incisions (and subsequent scars) are usually located, what they typically look like as they heal, and what you can do yourself to minimize their appearance over time.
Typical Locations of BBL Scars
There are two phases to any brazilian butt lift procedure: liposuction and fat transfer.
During liposuction, fat is typically taken from the midsection. Where the lipo incisions are made to remove the fat depends on exactly where you want fat removed.
For example, if you want most of your fat taken out of the lower abdominal area, incisions will usually be made in the belly button and in the groin area below the bikini line. Arm fat removal usually requires incisions in the armpit, which may result in small liposuction scars that are usually well hidden.
Once liposuction has been performed, fat injections are then made directly into the buttocks and hips. These injections do not result in significant scar tissue. Most patients have little to no noticeable scarring from fat injections.
BBL Before and After
What BBL Scars Usually Look Like
As stated above, BBLs result in minimal scarring. Any visible scarring is typically from the liposuction portion of the surgery. And even then, the incisions are small — usually just a few millimeters.
Right after surgery, incisions will be bright red or pink. It’s important to make sure these incisions heal together properly, which supports optimal wound healing. This is why not smoking, ensuring proper circulation and blood supply (with regular walks), and avoiding extreme physical activity is so essential.
After they heal together, the scars will usually turn to a light to medium pink or mauve color. Some scars will then start to turn brownish or grayish as they slowly fade, depending on your natural skin tone.
Finally, a few months out from surgery, your scars should turn quite light in color and generally blend in with your natural skin around the edges, especially when maintaining healthy skin habits.
How to Minimize BBL Scars
Plastic surgeons always give their patients a list of ways to reduce the appearance of scars over time. In some cases, a proper scar treatment plan can help improve results and support collagen production, which plays a key role in how scars mature.
- Stay out of the sun (or wear sunscreen).
- Wear your BBL compression garment as directed.
- Do not smoke post op.
- Ensure proper blood flow by moving around regularly.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Start scar massage when cleared to do so.
- Start silicone gel sheets or ointment when cleared to do so.
FAQ: BBL Surgery BBL Scars
Will a Brazilian butt lift work if I’m skinny?
A Brazilian butt lift involves removing unwanted fat and transferring it to the buttocks and hips. So, if you don’t have much excess unwanted fat to remove because you are quite thin, this can be a problem.
Fortunately, most people have enough excess fat to adequately provide the desired plumpness and projection to the hips and buttocks. The amount of excess fat you have will be assessed at a consultation appointment prior to your Brazilian butt lift procedure.
How long does a BBL last?
It’s important that newly transferred fat cells survive the transfer and healing process. This can be achieved if you avoid direct pressure during healing (use a donut shaped pillow) and make sure that you follow all of your surgeon’s instructions (wear your compression garments, take your medications, don’t exercise, etc.).
If you do these things, you can expect the transferred fat to act just as the original fat in the buttock area. Eat a proper diet, try not to gain unnecessary excess fat gain, and lead an overall healthy lifestyle, and your results will last for many years until they may eventually be altered by the natural effects of aging.
Unfortunately, we cannot pre-correct for things like natural lines, excess body fat, or loose skin due to aging.
Where are BBL scars located?
BBL scars usually form where the surgeon makes small entry points for liposuction and fat transfer. These are often placed in areas like the lower abdomen, near the belly button, the flanks, or just under the buttocks. The goal is to keep them as hidden as possible, so they’re typically tucked into natural creases or less visible spots. Once everything heals, most people have a hard time even finding them.
Does BBL leave scars?
Yes, but they’re very small. A Brazilian butt lift involves tiny incisions, so some scarring is expected, but it’s usually minimal. Over time, these marks tend to fade and become much less noticeable. For most patients, the scars aren’t something that stands out or takes away from the final results.
